Dassault Systèmes SE (English: /dəˈs/; French pronunciation: ​[daˈso]; abbreviated 3DS), is a French software company headquartered in Vélizy-Villacoublay, France that develops 3D design, 3D digital mock-up, and product lifecycle management (PLM) software.

History[edit]

Dassault Systèmes (NYSE Euronext:DSY) is a subsidiary of the Dassault Group created in 1981 by Avions Marcel Dassault to develop a new generation of computer-aided design (CAD) software called CATIA. The French government, a shareholder since 2001, sold a 15.74% stake in the company for 601 million in 2003.[2] The Dassault Group in 2011 held 42.2%[3] shares. Dassault Systèmes moved its corporate headquarters from Suresnes to Velizy-Villacoublay in November 2008. This new European headquarters, located in the south-western suburbs of Paris, is commonly called 3DS Paris Campus. Another campus was established in 2011 in Waltham, Massachusetts, west of Boston (United States) and is called 3DS Boston Campus.

Dassault Systèmes develops and markets PLM software and services that support industrial processes by providing a 3D vision of the entire life-cycle of products from conception to maintenance. Dassault Systèmes customers are companies in the following industries: Aerospace & Defense, Architecture, Engineering and Construction, Consumer goods - distribution, FMCG - Distribution, Energy, and processes, Finance and Corporate Services, High Technology, Industrial Equipment, Life Sciences, Marine & Offshore, Natural Resources, and Transport & mobility.[4]

Products & Brands[edit]

Before 2000, the company focused on 3D design software with CATIA and SOLIDWORKS. Over the next decade, new brands were launched: ENOVIA for product data management and collaboration; DELMIA for manufacturing and global operations; and SIMULIA for realistic simulation.

The company later added additional brands: EXALEAD (for information intelligence and search); NETVIBES (for business analytics); 3DEXCITE (for marketing); GEOVIA (for modeling the planet); BIOVIA (for modeling the biosphere); and MEDIDATA (for managing clinical trials)*.

People & Culture[edit]

3DS has 17,000 employees across 133 countries: 43% are based in Europe; 28% in Asia-Oceania; and 29% in Americas. Geographic headquarters are located in Paris (Vélizy-Villacoublay, France) Tokyo, Japan and Boston (Waltham, Massachusetts). As of December 31, 2018, approximately 41% of employees worked in R&D.

In addition to their professional activities, employees participate in social initiatives, including community service days, supporting robotics competitions (such as First Robotics) and sporting charities such as the Pan Mass Challenge. Since 2013, the company has a Women's Initiative Network[30] to encourage, inspire and support women in their career development by achieving personal and professional growth, as well as support women globally such as by sponsoring technical education for women in developing countries such as Rwanda.[31]
