Jughead's Sexual Orientation I understand that Archie Comics are for children and known to be rather conservative, however it seems pretty clear to me that Jughead Jones is homosexual. Don't get me wrong; I'm 24 years old and have been reading these comics since I was an infant. I am not writing this as an insult. Even in elementary school, I already thought it was strange that a 17 (16?) year old heterosexual boy would not be interested in girls. My guess is that within the next 20-25 years or so, when homosexuality becomes acceptable in America, Jughead will fully come out of the closet. Why is there no speculation of Jughead's homosexuality in this article. Is that because this is a children's article. I am curious. Upsiditus
because Archie comics are mostly aimed to young children where sexual orientation is not a subject. jughead's sex orientation (whether he's gay or straight) is mostly coming from fans speculation. the writers never intended to put anything sexual in the story. and recent comic storylines depicts jughead dating with girls, even with betty, although he's not a womanizer like archie. dilton doiley also hardly interested in girls, because science is his passion -- just like jughead's passion is food. unless you have resources to support this speculation, it is unlikely to be put in the article. HoneyBee
I do not think that Jug is a homosexual. Like HoneyBee said, Dilton is not interested in girls, and no one is accusing him. I truly think that Jughead sees nothing interesting in girls, much like I do. I'm not seventeen (I'm younger), though. ~Zack 74.12.214.214 (talk) 16:49, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Speculation is not encyclopaedic. Efficacious (talk) 00:34, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
I agree that "orientation" is not part of young children's reading, but clearly Archie, Reggie, Betty, Veronica, Moose, Midge, etc. would be considered "heterosexual" now wouldn't they? I'm sure they would. And as far as no one "accusing Dilton" I distinctly remember several stories where he tries to go out with girls, but it's explained that he is shy and "uncool" and such. This was not true with Jughead until the late 1980s, when gays were becoming more visible, so the writers realized if they didn't have Jughead going after girls, he would be "accused" of being gay. If anyone reading this can remember back in the 1980s when the AIDS scare began, they had on the back of the comics, I believe Mr. Weatherbee giving a lecture and the kids are sitting at desks. Notice that Jughead is particularly paying attention and smiling, keying in to the fact that he couldn't possibly have the disease. This was again to quell the "gay rumors." Jughead stopped chasing girls in the early 1990s or so because the readers found it "unnatural" (gee, I wonder why....).The explanation given ("he would be too much like Archie" doesn't wash, Reggie goes after girls too, and he isn't "too much like Archie").76.241.84.71 (talk) 23:43, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Did any of the above people stop to think that Jughead is perhaps asexual... that is, just not interested in sex? Could be hormones, could be a condition like Asperger's, or maybe, just maaaaaaaybe, the story about his childhood crush detailed in the page could be true, or he just hasn't met the right girl? Jughead isn't a woman-hater. He just dislikes the way that women make men behave. Archie turns into a drooling lump when girls appear. Jughead finds it undignified. I think he'd be a late starter and probably find someone that was suited to him, male or female, when he's older. Just my impression. Teobi (talk) 20:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
The most recent issue of Jughead confirms he is asexual. [1] I take offense at the comment by Upsitidus that because a male does not show an interest in women that it becomes clear the person is gay. This is the kind of prejudice asexual men have always faced.Eddietheace (talk) 19:35, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
